What is Buddhist Psychotherapy?
With its 2500-year-old history, Buddhism is one of the oldest, as well as complete, psychology methods available to us today. In fact, it is one of the roots of modern psychotherapeutic methods. With the integration of the Buddhist meditation practice of mindfullness into Behavioural Therapy, the gap between modern psychology and Buddhism has been closing. Where Buddhism still has one foot forward is in the overall attitude to psychotherapy. While many modern methods concentrate on eradicating symptoms and removing suffering, Buddhism goes one step further in cultivating and integrating the positive human potential. As human beings, we want more than just not to suffer, we also want to be happy. Buddhism offers working models that actively and practically promote positive mental states such as kindness, satisfaction, compassion and joy, which when cultivated, lead to deep personal contentment.
Buddhist psychotherapy is not about Buddhism
You don’t have to be a Buddhist to tap into the wealth of knowledge that Buddhism has to offer. Your psychotherapist can destill the essence for you in the format most suitable and acceptable for you. Don’t worry – we are not aiming to convert you! Buddhism has no such agenda. What Western scholars came to call ‘Buddhism’ is not a religion or a cult, but a collection of methods brought together intelligently and meticulously over millenia by thousands of scientist of the mind dedicated to improving the human condition. And because the human mind is the same today as it ever was, these methods are as valid and, as increasingly proven, effective for us today as they were for generations before us.

Pedronma Zuzana Čerňáková
I’m a Buddhist practitioner of over 15 years. I studied the Buddhist principles and meditation under Penor Ripoche at his Tibetan Monastery in India the traditional way, from the foundational to the top level. Although I am well-versed in Buddhist philosophy and ritual, I have recently been supporting the direct teaching style of Mingyur Rinpoche with its minimalistic style of meditation and focus on essence while remaining authentic.
I’m based in Prague where I work as a language specialist and meditation coach. I am the artist Pedronma. Everything I do is a form of compassionate practice for the benefit of all sentient beings and the world.
